StayAwake is a small application for Windows, which allows to temporarily disable the screensaver, sleep, hibernation and anything else that is launched when the computer is idle.
StayAwake can be useful if you want to watch a movie and you have to move the mouse every few minutes to avoid the screensaver. It can also help if you would like to disable the screensaver, but you can’t because of some sort of security policy.
Click here to download the latest version or here to visit the StayAwake project page on Sourceforge.
StayAwake is:
- configurable, still very easy to use;
- lightweight (executable size is less than 50 KiB, memory usage at runtime is usually below 1 MiB);
- free!
How to use StayAwake
StayAwake displays a green monitor icon in the tray. Double click the icon to disable the screen saver. Double click it again to allow running the screen saver.
To enable or disable StayAwake you can also use the tray menu or a keyboard shortcut.

I can’t install it as I do not have rights \ permissions on my desktop. is there anyway to run this program without installing?
StayAwake is actually a single-file program — it does not really need to be installed using the setup wizard. To install it manually follow these steps:
The application will run just like after a typical installation. Please remember, that if you want to use StayAwake always, you can enable the “Start at windows startup” feature in the settings (so you don’t have to start it every time manually).
